STATEMENT
Violence is an issue that plagues all women in every part of the world. It controls, berates, destroys, silences, and keeps women "in their place" The desecration of women indicates the failure of human beings to honor and protect life.
In the United States we have the privilege of laws in our favor. Any violence, mental or physical should be reported, dealt with and considered unacceptable. However, the poor self-esteem of females in this county is astounding and has a direct relation to unreported abuse, whether it be sexual, mental, or emotional. When women are made to feel inferior, weak, and ugly, many accept the unfair treatment they receive, whether through fear or a lack of concern for themselves.
Becoming aware of the scope and complexity of the issue is important, but creating a community of concern for what is happening all around the world to mothers, daughters, wives, girlfriends, sisters, friends is of the greatest importance. To confront the numbness, denial, and disassociation many women feel towards this issue, my aim for the mybody campaign is to focus on the empowerment and awareness of women.
Change needs to affect the nuances and interactions between men and women in daily life before the larger issues can be solved. These nuances, reflect the struggle of young girls and women with their body image and self-confidence, due to the media, society and their relationships.
